Time to Think
This statement piece is based on a photo that Gillian took on a sunny autumn morning in the Meadows, in Edinburgh, which captures the way the crisp sunlight cut through the trees as a parade of commuters came through. Gillian has brought the photo to life with a different palette of warm, vibrant tones. To create this piece, Gillian sketched out the elements of the image and then used moulding paste to create background texture, which she further built upon using a variety of decorative papers. Gillian then gradually built up layers in the painting, mainly by using palette knives. The image is painted on a box canvas 90 x 60 cm in size, which is painted on the sides and signed by Gillian Hancey in the bottom right corner, and is ready to hang.
