During the time I spent in the Dominican Republic (read more about that here), I saw that some locals painted the inner surface of coconut shells with vibrant images, and sold these at craft stalls. They were beautiful just as ornaments or perhaps as a bowl for trinkets.

Years later, I have been exploring using different surfaces to create art, and I particularly like the idea of using surfaces that are a bit closer to how they appear naturally and not so man-made. So naturally, I remembered coconut shells.

 

I have had so much fun making these and I have loved the challenge of working straight lines into a curved surface!
