'On the Brink'
About this painting
In this vibrant, colourful, one-off painting, Gillian explores the idea of creating art about people without being restricted to the composition of a traditional portrait. Gillian used a photograph she had taken as the source image and sketched this onto an textured underpainting of coloured gesso. She then gradually built the image up in layers of acrylic and finally oil paints.
“I love this piece - the profile, the colours, the movement in the paint. Really beautiful.”
Carole Gagné Ince, Canada
“Very nice artwork. My first impression, something tribal, ancient, maybe Aborigine. State of mind - a pleasant trance.”
Laura Rainbow, Croatia
“It makes me feel I’m in the midst of an active, dramatic, colourful, energetic, imaginative process. Fabulous”
Julie McCabe, UK
“Curious! Vibrant and busy. Interesting textures.”
“I’m loving the contrast of warm and cool tones, makes me energised and reflective at the same time. It’s brilliant...reminds me of the futurist movement, but like you’ve brought it up to date into contemporary art - very clever.”
